Non-LEO K-9 Handling
Not Just Training. A Whole New Understanding
Service Description
“What’s it like to be a K-9 Handler?” It’s a question law enforcement officers hear often — and one that’s difficult to fully answer. The bond between a handler and their K-9 partner is unlike anything else in policing. It’s built on trust, discipline, constant communication, and an unspoken understanding between two partners working side by side. At Family First K-9, LLC, we’re passionate about giving others a window into that world. That’s why we’ve created an interactive, hands-on class designed for both law enforcement professionals and civilians who want to better understand the power, purpose, and responsibility behind K-9 work. This course is more than just educational — it’s fun, engaging, and community-focused. It’s a unique opportunity to break down barriers and build trust between officers and the public through a shared appreciation for the incredible work these dogs do. What You’ll Learn and Experience: Participants will walk away with a stronger understanding of both the technical and emotional sides of K-9 handling through real-time instruction and up-close interaction. You’ll: • Observe live demonstrations of tracking, obedience, and odor detection • Learn how police K-9s are trained to detect narcotics, track individuals, and apprehend suspects • Explore the mindset and daily responsibilities of K-9 handlers and how they prepare for real-world deployments • Handle training tools and equipment used in modern K-9 operations, from leashes and bite sleeves to odor kits and harnesses • Understand canine drives and behaviors, including how handlers channel a dog’s natural instincts into controlled and effective work • See the teamwork in action between a handler and their dog — and between a K-9 unit and support officers in the field • Learn basic handler communication techniques, including how body language, commands, and trust shape a dog’s performance Who This Class Is For: • Civilians and dog lovers who are curious about law enforcement K-9 work • Teens or young adults considering a future in policing or working dogs • Current law enforcement officers who want to better support K-9 teams in the field or explore a future assignment • Community members who want to engage with police in a positive, educational setting • Families and youth programs looking for a unique learning experience Registration: https://forms.gle/DV55QXfraC3MuF83A Payment: https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/ZTMEXEPG9M5GQ
